Advice on ST3 interviews in Neurology

You can also find advice on the JRCPTB website.

General Format

ST3 interviews usually have a multiple stations format with structured questions. Each question is aimed at assessing one or several skills and marked on strict criteria defined in advance by the interviewers. Typically, there will be 3-4 stations, each 10 mins long. Each station will usually deal with different topics. Topics that may be covered include:

Clinical Scenarios

Usually covers diagnosis/differential diagnosis and management of common neurological conditions such as:

Research

Audit

Teaching

Risk management

Evidence based medicine

Ethical situations

NHS Issues

Examples of situations where you have shown particular skills

E.g. communication skills, leadership skills, initiative.

This is by no means a comprehensive list, but will hopefully be a good basis on which to start preparation. You can also find advice on the JRCPTB website.
