ABN Annual Meeting 2017

2, 3-5 May 2017 - The ACC, Liverpool

The ABN meeting in Liverpool has received much positive feedback and was deemed a great success. The programme, the speakers, the venue, the memorable gala dinner in the cathedral and even the weather all contributed to the atmosphere of the meeting which attracted a record 756 of delegates. Highlights included: Martin Rossor’s outstanding medallist lecture New words for old in which we heard about the global cognitive footprint reflecting the increased awareness of the multiple contributors to dementia; the Gordon Holmes lecture given by Eric Hoffmann who described his journey from identifying the gene for Duchenne’s muscular dystrophy to developing innovative ways for delivering therapies for these rare genetic conditions; and Andrew Schwartz’s lecture on Recent progress towards high performance neural prosthetics where he amazed us all with the artificial arm that can not only move but also feel.

Our bursaries for young presenters helped attract over 300 abstracts our highest number to date – which contributed to excellent platform and poster presentations.

The pre-meeting training and development day with sessions for GPs, foundation year trainees, SPRs and those interested in a research career continues to grow in popularity.
