Professor Sir Douglass Turnbull

Many congratulations to Professor Sir Douglass Turnbull (Newcastle-upon-Tyne), knighted in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in June 2016.  It is wonderful that Doug’s huge contribution to the field of mitochondrial disease has been so publicly acknowledged and even better that he intends to continue working to help people affected with these disabling conditions. At the ABN in London last October, Doug memorably spoke of his work on so-called ‘3-parent babies’, something that required a law change with the support of Lord Walton, who joined our discussion with his last, but characteristically insightful and cogent contribution. Doug is a great ambassador for British neurology, a clinician scientist from the top drawer, and we are justifiably very proud of him.
