The Future of Cannabis-based Medicine in UK Healthcare

Emerging clinical research has provided evidence to support the claim that cannabis-based treatments can have therapeutic effects for sufferers of childhood epilepsy, Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, chronic pain and multiple sclerosis. Political momentum for legalisation is also mounting. A plethora of countries, including Germany, Israel, Australia and most recently Portugal, have legalised medical cannabis whilst Canada is set to become the first G7 nation to legalise recreational use of the substance. The World Health Organisation (WHO) publicly endorsed the drug’s medicinal qualities in 2017, recommending states review their approach to the scheduling of Cannabidiol (CBD) oil (who.int, 2017). ... The 13th World Congress on Controversies in Neurology (CONy)

We are proud to announce that the 13th World Congress on Controversies in Neurology (CONy) will take place in Madrid, Spain on April 4-7, 2019. It is difficult to keep pace with the enormous growth in clinical and basic data in neurology. Conferences are informative, but there is often only limited time for thorough and critical discussions. CONy provides a platform for international experts to discuss and compare experiences, thus closing the gap between the expansion of knowledge and its dissemination and use. The core of the CONy Congress focus on unresolved issues debated by leading world experts. The Congress aims to provide the most recent data armoring the clinician with reliable, up-to-date scientific information, helping in everyday patient care.... Read more

EEG in Status Epilepticus and on the Intensive Care Unit Teaching Course

The interpretation of EEG both in status epilepticus and on the intensive care unit is notoriously difficult, and yet there are few settings in which EEG is not more important, and both are settings in which the skilful use of EEG can make an enormous difference to clinical outcomes. Furthermore, recording in the intensive care unit carries problems not encountered in the normal EEG recording laboratories. Debate rages about the how much and how often EEG should be performed and which techniques are optimal. This is an area where practice varies quite considerably in different units and different countries. This teaching course is aimed at all doctors treating patients with status epilepticus and/or patients in intensive care settings, and also for EEG technologists. The emphasis is on providing practical guidance for patient management in these clinical settings and practical advice in different clinical situations. The course is taught by a distinguished international faculty who give their experience of practice in Europe and the USA as well as in Britain.... Read more
