Fellowship Application 2021

The ABN Clinical Research Training Fellowship scheme provides 3-year clinical research training fellowships in neurological disciplines resulting in a PhD.

Supported by: The Guarantors of Brain, the Patrick Berthoud Charitable Trust, the Multiple System Atrophy Trust, the MS Society, the Stroke Association, the Berkeley Foundation and the Association of British Neurologists.

 

Applications are welcomed with focus on:

  • Any neurological disorder, for fellowships awarded by the ABN and its funding partners the Guarantors of Brain and the Patrick Berthoud Charitable Trust.
  • Multiple System Atrophy and underlying mechanisms, for the Sir Roger Bannister Clinical Research Training Fellowship, a partnership between Multiple System Atrophy Trust (MSAT) and the Association of British Neurologists (ABN).
  • Multiple Sclerosis, funded by the MS Society and the Berkeley Foundation for research falling  within the 2018-2022 MS Society Research Strategy remit.
  • Stroke*, funded jointly by the Stroke Association and the Berkeley Foundation.

 

  Applicants

  • should already hold a UK or Irish specialist training post in Neurology,
  • OR demonstrate intention to enter Neurology specialist training after completion of the Fellowship.
  • *Applications for the specific Stroke Association-Berkeley Foundation award are additionally welcomed from other trainee physicians with an interest in stroke.

 

Awards

  • are typically for three years (maximum),
  • may be between two and three years if the candidate has already undertaken up to one year of research that can be counted toward their PhD.

 

Funding

  • is primarily for salary, paid at the level of the candidate’s current basic clinical salary point.
  •  is additionally available up to a maximum of £10,000 per annum, to cover PhD fees and other research-related costs.
