In this year’s process additional funding may be available for proposals specifically addressing Ataxia Telangiectasia and related conditions, including their underlying cellular mechanisms, which achieve the highest rating during the application and interview process.

About the Fellowship

The ABN has assisted charities since 2009 in organising clinical research training fellowships, awarded to trainees who want to study an aspect of clinical neuroscience in depth for three or four years and obtain an MD or PhD degree. Please click here to view previous successful fellows.

In 2014 the ABN launched its own Clinical Research Training Fellowship fund. We have been encouraged by the understanding and commitment to the fellowship fund demonstrated by our members and by other friends of the fellowship. In May 2015 members voted to include a voluntary donation to the Fellowhip fund as part of theirr annual subscription. We are grateful for the generous donations already received and, with others promised, we have a good base upon which to build a successful fund.

In 2018, the ABN agreed to name one of its prestigious clinical research training fellowships after Sir Roger in recognition of his enormous contributions to medicine and neurology. This is the first time the ABN has honoured one of its members in this way. Sir Roger was a strong advocate of research fellowships and the Bannister family supports the fellowship proposal. (more information here)

Twelve fellows were appointed between 2015 and 2017 and in 2018 the fellowship scheme was able to offer 5 new fellowships, two by the Guarantors of Brain, one by the Patrick Berthoud Charitable Trust and one by the ABN/Dunhill Medical Trust.

The 2018 fellowship attracted 19 applicants and interviews took place in March 2018.

Applications for the 2019 fellowships will open in Autumn 2018.
