The Sir Roger Bannister Clinical Research Training Fellowship

The Association of British Neurologists (ABN) will name one of its prestigious clinical research training fellowships after Sir Roger in recognition of his enormous contributions to medicine and neurology and the first time the ABN has honoured one of its members in this way.

Sir Roger was a strong advocate of research fellowships and the Bannister family supports the fellowship proposal. The ABN perceives its fellowships, as an important way to safeguard the future of academic neurology in the UK. Research has shown that ex-research fellows stay loyal to their research area throughout their professional lives. So funding a fellowship for 3 years is a superb use of research money.

The fellowship would be open to applications from throughout the UK (and Ireland?). It is expected that the Bannister Fellowship would attract applications involving research in neurological conditions involving the Autonomic Nervous System, which were a particular interest of Sir Roger. We have made a promising start in raising funds for the scheme but welcome further donations.

If you would like to honour Sir Roger by contributing towards his fellowship, you can do so:

• By bank transfer: Sort Code: 30 92 59, Account No: 79310860

• Online via www.justgiving.com/A-B-N

• By cheque: payable to ‘The ABN Clinical Training Fellowship Fund’, address as below:

Association of British Neurologists

• By credit card: please call ABN office on 02074054060
