Sean Slaght
Council Member, 2025-2029
Dr Sean J Slaght has been a Consultant Neurologist at the Wessex Neurological Centre (WNC) in Southampton and Queen Alexandra Hospital (QAH) in Portsmouth since 2014. He is a general neurologist which includes acute/liaison neurology and runs subspecialty
clinics in epilepsy and sleep medicine. He takes part in the regional hyperacute stroke on-call. He is the regional clinical lead for neurology at the Wessex Neurological Centre and Clinical Director for the neurology department at Queen Alexandra
Hospital. He has been principal investigator at WNC and QAH for numerous clinical trials and actively engages in teaching from medical students to consultants and allied health professionals. He was the neurology advisor to the maternity review
at the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (Ockenden Report). Former roles within the ABN include previous secretary to the ABNT and Wessex representative on the Services Committee.
He studied medicine at the University
of Wales College of Medicine (now part of Cardiff University) and took 4 years out from his medical degree to obtain a BSc in Physiology and a PhD in Neurosciences from Cardiff University. His PhD thesis concentrated on the cellular mechanisms
of absence seizures in a genetic model. His medical training was in London at the North Middlesex and King’s College Hospitals. Neurology Training was at WNC and QAH followed by a post-CCT epilepsy fellowship at King’s College hospital.
Outside
of work he is an active member of a local book club. He enjoys country walks and cooking for friends and family and has started to fancy himself as something of a gardener (although struggles to remember the names of all the plants and which are
the ones to keep or remove).
