Ann Johnston
Meetings Secretary 2025 - 2027
I qualified from Queens University Belfast in 2001 and completed my general medical training in Northern Ireland before moving to South Wales where I trained in neurology. I obtained my MD in epilepsy genetics and a diploma in medical education.
My clinical interests are acute neurology, epilepsy and medical education.
I was appointed as a consultant in 2013 and work at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff in general neurology and epilepsy. I am also a Clinical Senior Lecturer at Cardiff University. I work in a busy department participating in acute front
door neurology, work with the epilepsy multidisciplinary team, co-lead a dedicated first seizure service and am a member of the epilepsy surgery team.
I represent neurology on the RCP Part 1 Examinations Board and Part 1 Specialist Question Group. I am co-medical editor for Epilepsy Professional. Locally I have been the morbidity and mortality lead and was president of Southwest Neurosciences
Association; SWENA from 2020-2023.
I enjoy participating in undergraduate and postgraduate training. I am a member of the Undergraduate Assessment team at Cardiff University, act as an educational supervisor for neurology and general internal medicine trainees, and provide academic
mentoring to undergraduates.
Outside of neurology, I like to travel, cycle, run and hike.
