Dr Helen Grote read medicine at Magdalen College, Oxford, and Clare College Cambridge. Whilst at Oxford, she intercalated a D.Phil researching gene-environment interactions in Huntington’s Disease, and spent 18 months as visiting academic at the Howard Florey Institute, University of Melbourne. Her postgraduate neurology training in clinical genetics and neurology was undertaken in London (St George’s Hospital, Imperial College London, National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery), and incorporated a year out of programme as Clinical Fellow to the Chief Inspector of Hospitals at the Care Quality Commission. Following completion of training in 2020, Dr Grote took up her first consultant post at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and Imperial College London, where she was the clinical lead for neurogenetics. ;

Dr Grote was appointed as consultant neurologist at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde in September 2024. She runs general neurology clinics at Ayr University Hospital and a movement disorders clinic at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

Outside medicine her interests include running, skiing, and walking her black Labrador.
